How Long Does It Take to Visit Salem?

We recommend staying overnight, so you have time to take advantage of the excellent walking tours, the live music, and the Haunted Happenings programming without having to stress about a late-night drive home.

How Big is Salem?

Salem is a quaint city that can be explored by walking. Most places are about a half-mile apart, making it easy to get to all the exciting destinations you want to check out.

What Is the Weather Like in October?

October offers lovely fall weather with a usual high of 62 degrees and a low of 45 degrees. Since we are in New England, the weather can be unpredictable, with some days being 75 degrees and sunny and other days being 32 degrees and snowing, so it is important to dress warm and wear layers!

Is Food Included on a Haunted Houses Ghost Hunt?

During the Haunted Happenings ghost hunt, there is no food provided. However, there will be stops and breaks at staple Salem eateries.

Are There Deals, Discounts, or Combination Tickets?

The Land of Witches & Pirates offers a combination ticket to the Witch Dungeon Museum, Witch History Museum, and the New England Pirate Museum. The Salem Hysteria pass includes the Salem Wax Museum and the Salem Witch Village. The Visit 1692 pass consists of the Salem Witch Museum, Witch House, and the Rebecca Nurse House; it also provides a discount at the Tavern at the Hawthorne Hotel and more!

How Do We Get There?

Salem is 16 miles north of Boston. You can take the train from Boston, Gloucester, Rockport, Ipswich, or Newburyport, and you can take the ferry service between Boston and Salem. If you fly into Boston Logan Airport, a taxi is around $50.00 to Salem.

Where Do We Start?

If this is your first visit to Salem, we recommend visiting the Salem Regional Visitor Center at 2 New Liberty Street. There you can find a range of maps, brochures, and directions to all the fun happenings within Salem. There is a gift shop, restrooms, and a free movie about Salem.

What Is the Line Drawn on the Sidewalks?

The line on the sidewalks is known as the Salem Heritage Trail. It connects all of Salem’s historical significance sites and neighborhoods. Following it gives you an in-depth understanding of Salem’s exciting history.

Are There Toilets at Every Location?

There are toilets at all locations; however, some sites are abandoned buildings, and the toilet facilities may not be as pleasant. We suggest bringing hand sanitizer or sanitary items you may need.

Are There Public Restrooms?

There are restrooms in various locations, including South Harbor Garage Restrooms, available from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.; Salem Regional Visitors Center, open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Artist Row Restrooms, from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m., Central Wharf Restrooms from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. until October 31, and Witch City Mall restrooms.

What Happens if I Get Scared During the Event?

There is a safe area that is well-lit if you become frightened and need a break from the event. If you feel overwhelmed, you can be taken to the safe zone until you feel ready to get back to ghost hunting!

Can I Leave Early?

If you want to leave early, just let a team member know, as you will need to be removed from the fire register, and car parks may need to be unlocked. You will be asked to wait until between group activities or during a break, so the event is not disrupted for other guests.

How Big Are the Groups?

The groups are kept small to enhance the experience. You will be in a group with the people you booked the event with; if your group is larger, you may be split into two smaller groups.

What Should I Wear?

The weather can be unpredictable, and some of the event locations are cold. Wearing warm layers that you can easily remove when you’re in warmer places is recommended. Shoes with good grip that are comfortable are recommended, as there is a lot of walking in old buildings and on uneven surfaces.

Do People Attend These Events Alone?

Yes, some people attend on their own. Even if you attend alone, you will be included in group activities. The friendly team members ensure that even guests who attend alone feel involved and enjoy their experience.

Can I Bring My Ghost Hunting Equipment?

Absolutely! You may bring whatever equipment you want, but it is your responsibility to keep an eye on your belongings. Team members may ask you to turn off or remove equipment during the event if it interferes with the vigil.
